Caring about the future

CESAM at the United Nations Oceans Conference

CESAM at the United Nations Oceans Conference

From June 27 to July 1, Lisbon will host the United Nations Ocean Conference. The conference aims to encourage the international community to find solutions for sustainable ocean management, bringing together more than 7000 people, including scientists, politicians, organizations, companies and activists.

The declining health of the oceans and the pressing need to reverse this process, including combating water acidification, pollution, illegal fishing, and loss of habitats and biodiversity are on the agenda.

The Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies is present at the side event One Sustainable Ocean | Ocean Science & Business2Sea. This free event focuses on the future of the ocean, sustainability, circular economy and innovation, and is aligned with United Nations goal 14 for sustainable development: Life below water.

One Sustainable Ocean | Ocean Science & Business2Sea can be visited from 8:30am to 6pm at the Pavilhão de Portugal.
