Photo exhibition to celebrate biodiversity

The Exhibition Gallery of the Auditório Mestre Hélder Castanheira (Bookstore), at University of Aveiro, hosts the photographs submitted to the photo contest that happened to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity, promoted by the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies, at the University of Aveiro. The exhibition, with free entrance, will be open to the public from July 4th to 22nd.

The photographs were submitted to the photography contest, aimed at the general public, which ran until May 11, promoted by the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies, to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity.

The photographs cover the theme of biodiversity, portraying the natural heritage, including terrestrial and marine ecosystems, habitats, species of wild fauna and flora, raising awareness in the community for the preservation of ecosystems and biodiversity, as well as respect for all species.

Photo contest to mark the International Day for Biological Diversity

There were 80 photos submitted to the contest, 13 to Category A (12 years old and under) and 67 to Category B (12 years old and under 18, and adults).

The jury, made up by CESAM members: Amadeu Soares, Isabel Lopes, Nelson Abrantes, Joaquim Pedro Ferreira, and by a member of the Communication and Image Services of the University of Aveiro: Hélder Bernardo, evaluated in blind-tasting and distinguished the following works:

Category A

1st prize: Natural Fragility, Paulo Sérgio Pinto

2nd Prize: Black redstart, Berta Correia

3rd prize: White-browed Albatross returns home through the fog, Francesco Ventura
