CESAM coordinates two "Twinning" projects funded by Horizon Europe

Two projects coordinated by CESAM, with a total European funding of over 2.5 million euros, aim to enhance the skills and the research profile of the University of Aveiro in two research areas.

Both projects are framed within the Widening - Widening Participation and Spreading Excellent actions of the horizontal and transversal pillar of Horizon Europe programme. These actions aim to enhance networking activities between the research institutions of the Widening countries (as Portugal) and top-class leading counterparts at EU level by linking it with at least two research institutions from two different Member States, building on the huge potential of networking for excellence through knowledge transfer and exchange of best practice between research institutions and partners

The project EPIBOOST - BOOSting excellence in environmental EPIgenetics, coordinated by Joana Pereira, researcher at CESAM & DBio, integrates in the consortium two internationally recognized organizations in the scientific area of the project: the University of Ghent, Belgium, and the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Spain, to tackle the challenges arising from the uptake of epigenetics in Environmental Assessment frameworks, particularly concerning the aquatic compartment.

The project FONDA - FOstering Nitrogen Deposition Assessment over Portugal, coordinated by Alexandra Monteiro, researcher of CESAM & DAO, focuses on the area of modelling and mapping of atmospheric emissions, particularly of ammonia. The project involves the formation of a strategic partnership with the R&D institution TNO, in the Netherlands, and the University of Berlin (FUB), in Germany.
