CESAM researchers present in the book “Women in Science”
Published in 9/3/2023
On the International Women's Day, the fourth volume of the book "Women in Science" was launched at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento in Lisbon, bringing together 101 portraits of women researchers from different fields of knowledge. This editorial project focuses on female researchers and their success stories, with the aim of contributing to the rooting of science in Portuguese society and possibly inspiring young people to follow their vocation in this area.
Three CESAM researchers were honoured in the 2023 edition: Ana Hilário, Ana Cristina Figueiredo and Edna Correia.
Ana Hilário said that "almost half of the researchers in Portugal are women, and this deserves to be celebrated, because unfortunately this is not the reality in a large number of countries world, where access to education and training in science is denied to women". Edna Correia also affirmed that "it is with great pleasure that I am part of this initiative by Ciência Viva to honour women in science. I think this work is very important to give women scientists a face and a voice, so that they can be known and recognised. I hope that these books will also help to show that there are Portuguese women in all areas of science, you just have to want to find them!
