Limestone structures formed by microalgae of coral were discovered
The discovery of limestone structures formed by unicellular algae, well-known by living in symbiosis with corals, brings an entirely new perspective on the ecology of these organisms. They are dinoflagellates of the genus Symbiodinium .This finding is reported in an article signed by five researchers from the UA and a colleague from Sydney University of Technology published in the journal " Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA" (PNAS) .
