UA Spin-off is one of 12 Portuguese funded by the European Program for SMEs

Competition of SME Instrument Program received nearly 2000 applications from 40 countries.
After being awarded by the seal of excellence of the European Commission, under Horizon 2020 Program, the spin-off DNA TRUSTAG, born at the University of Aveiro (UA), was funded with 50,000 euros in Phase 1 of the SME Instrument Competition within another area of the same program. This spin-off was one of 12 Portuguese funded from almost 2,000 candidates from 40 countries.
The European Commission's seal of excellence have already certificated the innovative nature and the commercialization potential of this technology developed in the Department of Biology and CESAM, with a registered patent with the support from the Technology Transfer Unit of UA (UATEC), and licensed by the DNA TRUSTAG company. Now it is funded through the same program of the Commission, the SME Instrument, dedicated to supporting SMEs, and after an application of the business plan to the security area of this program.
The technology that enables the production of unique DNA codes presented by this spin-off was one of the applications with best score in the context of a highly competitive competition. Newton Gomes and Francisco Coelho form the hands-on team of this spin-off.
