Nanomaterials and Microplastics in the Environment - need for new test methods
Published in 4/10/2017
Mónica Amorim, researcher at DBio and CESAM, and part of the research group on ecology and applied ecotoxicology - applEE, coordinated by Amadeu Soares, also director of DBio, is co-author of an article published in the prestigious magazine "Nano Today" (5Y-IF: 19.2): "Nanomaterials to microplastics: Swings and roundabouts".
The risks associated with new products are assessed before they enter into the market. However, long-term consequences are uncertain concerning the degradation products from their use, disposal at waste treatment plants, or when left in the wild, releasing microplastics and nanomaterials. It is therefore imperative to assess the long-term effects of plastics and other materials.
