José Alves, researcher at DBio and CESAM, has recently been appointed to the British Ornithologist’s Union meetings committee. The BOU is an organization with more than 150 years experience in “Advancing ornithology” and publishes one of the top ornithological scientific journals, IBIS.
As member of the meetings committee, José Alves will contribute towards the definition of priority international discussion topics regarding ecology, evolution and conservation of birds globally.
The BOU organizes themed conferences a feature that results in the outputs from these meetings providing practical guidelines for researchers, conservationists and governmental institutions. In 2018, the BOU’s annual conference will take place in 27-28 March, titled: “21st century ornithology: challenges, opportunities and decisions”. These conferences provide ample support to Early Career Researchers with reduces rates, dedicated workshops (e.g. presentation skills, social media presence) and the possibility to present your research even if it is outside the conference topic. In November the BOU organizes the first ever general ornithology Twitter conference – a unique opportunity to be updated on the most recent studies in ornithology at a very low cost, both financial and ecological #BOU17TC
