Forest fires present themselves as phenomenon which is very difficult to predict and control, resulting in negative consequences for both first responders and for the environment itself. In this sense, the scientific community has been addressing this issue in an attempt to understand the phenomenon itself (e.g. FUMEXP) and minimizing their consequences (e.g. project "Vital Responder"). With the project "Vital Responder 2.0", we want to merge the scientific results already obtained in order to optimize the firefighting and thus minimize the wildfires damages. The main objective of this project is to design a system for decision support in ground-based firefighting operations,synergistically between the firefighters monitoring data (e.g. vital signs, stress, fatigue), with known /estimated environmental variables (e.g. CO levels, weather, soil characteristics and fuel). This decision support module will aim to help in the coordination of firefighters teams on the operational scenarios, aditionally to its design/implementation, we want to deploy the system in the field.
