Researchers at CESAM and QOPNA editors of Marine Drugs - Marine Lipids 2017
Published in 11/4/2018
The researchers Rosário Domingues, Pedro Domingues and Ricardo Calado, belonging to the Research Centers QOPNA and CESAM, Department of Chemistry and the Department of Biology, were invited editors of the Special Volume "Marine Lipids 2017" published by the prestigious magazine Marine Drugs (http:/www.mdpi.com/journal/marinedrugs/special_issues/marine_lipids_2017).
The Special Volume "Marine Lipids 2017" published a total of 10 articles, which have to date more than 3,105 download and more than 13,650 views. This receptivity on the part of the scientific community of this Special Volume demonstrates the growing interest that exists in marine organisms as a source of lipids with high nutritional value and bioactive properties. These bioactive properties allow the application of these biomolecules in numerous industries, namely in the food, nutraceutical, cosmetic and pharmaceutical areas. Increasingly detailed knowledge of the lipid of marine organisms has allowed the discovery of new biotechnological applications for these biomolecules.
"Marine Lipids 2017" highlights the most innovative approaches to marine lipidomics as well as new discoveries about the lipidoma of marine organisms, and emphasizes potential forms of enhancement of these biomolecules. Due to the success of this special edition, "Marine Lipids 2017", will soon be published in e-Book format by the publisher MDPI (Switzerland), being agreed with the publisher the edition of new Special Volume on the same theme for 2019.
Rosário Domingues, Pedro Domingues and Ricardo Calado founded and coordinate the only Laboratory of Marine Lipidics in the country, aiming to place the University of Aveiro at the forefront of the new Blue Bio-Economy, contributing to an intelligent and integral valorization of endogenous marine biological resources.
