  • Workshop on Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP Portugal)

  • 6th Workshop in Immunology

University of Aveiro, 14 Mar 2018 Concluding remarks Functional link between protein aggregation, inflammation and autophagy in human pDCs allows the development of novel therapies against inflammatory conditions. Modulation of immune cells and its interactions with other cell types allows to take advantage of immune responses for novel regenerative therapies. Functional intersection between autophagy and TLR signaling in human pDCs function enables development of novel therapies against infections or to treat autoimmune diseases. CAL-1 cells are a good cell model for pDC activation with immune complexes. The interaction between vMIA and MFF at the peroxisomal membrane is essential for vMIA’s-dependent inhibition of the antiviral immune response. Flow cytometry is a complete tool to analyze different parameters at single cell level, are used as biomarkers of disease progression. The pro- or anti-inflammatory action of modified amino-phospholipids appears to be related with its molecular species and type of modification. Targeting lipid-related pathways is a promising strategy to modulate macrophages phenotype towards enhanced pro-resolving activity. Metabolism targeting should modulate macrophage polarization.

  • 7th Workshop in Lipidomics

[Conteúdo apenas disponível em inglês] University of Aveiro, 28 Feb 2018 Concluding remarks Mass spectrometry-based Lipidomic approaches are valuable tools to identify lipid signature and candidate biomarkers associated to disease, opening new perspectives in understanding the role of lipids in the health or disease. The knowledge acquired on membrane????s biophysical parameters are key issues to find membrane targets, design drugs and delivery systems, and identify the interplay between drugs and cell membrane. Identification of lipid profile alterations in children obesity is a useful tool to determine biomarkers for early diagnosis and to predict disease development. The identification of optimal instrumental parameters in Mass Spectrometry Analysis is a key issue for the detection of modified PLs in biological samples. Lipids play a relevant role in the activation of immune system cells, and thus they can be an valuable tool to develop new strategies against disease. Obesity-related metabolic changes are associated with lipid profile alterations and cancer development. Specific variations in phospholipidome profile allowed to identify putative biomarkers and understand the biological processes related to myocardial infarction.
