Forging sustainability

Marine Primary Production Laboratory (MPPL)

Research lab focused on the photobiology, ecophysiology and productivity of marine and estuarine algae and vascular plants, photosynthetic symbioses, and other communities of primary producers, like the phytoplankton and the microphytobenthos. The current research activities and interests include photoprotection mechanisms and photoinhibition of photosynthesis in diatoms, ecology and biodiversity of free-living stages of the coral endosymbiont Symbiodinium, ecophysiology and evolution of kleptoplast-bearing marine animals, bioimaging of photosynthesis-related processes, and modelling of carbon fixation and primary production in estuarine environments.
