The new protection area Natura 2000, the first marine area exclusively dedicated to the conservation of cetaceans, was approved in the Council of Ministers on the 23 Jan. This area was proposed in the scope of the project LIFE+ MarPro which financed by European Commission and is coordinated by the researcher of CESAM & dBio, Catarina Eira. However, the researcher warns that these areas will be ineffective if there is no effective conservation measures. More details on this approved area and researcher's concerns here [in PT].
