Researcher Irina Gorodetskaya and colleagues collected casts of snowflakes as part of the project ‘Quantifying precipitation and its contribution to surface freshening in the Southern Ocean’ during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition in January-February 2017 funded by the Swiss Polar Institute. Besides this, Irina was also involved in scanning the images as part of the project ‘EXPAR - EXtreme Precipitation events in Antarctica: investigating the role of Atmospheric Rivers’ included in the Programa Polar Português funded by FCT. Part of this work was used by the artist Yvonne Weber that created the exhibition ‘Casting the Ephemerality’. This exhibition was opened on the 1st April and is present at the Maritime Museum of Ushuaia, Argentina until the 30th April 2019. It will be part of the conference SC-HASS 2019 – Antarctic Connections at the end of the world (3-5 April).

More on the artist’s motivation and exhibition together with the images of the exhibition can be seen here.
