New environment-friendly solutions for anti-fouling compounds
Published in 8/4/2019
The paper "Toxicity of innovative anti-fouling nano-based solutions in marine species" authored by members of CESAM's Functional Biodiversity group and Department of Biology, with major contributions from CICECO and the Portuguese company Smallmatek was just published on Environmental Science: Nano. Briefly, this study concluded that is possible to develop "greener" nano-based antifouling additives for maritime coatings without compromising their efficacy. The novel compounds were carefully characterized and their toxicity assessed and compared against commercial state-of-the-art compounds in several marine species representative of different trophic levels.
