Coordinator: Susana LoureiroCo-coordinator: Jan Keizer Keywords: Biodiversity Ecossystem structure, functions and services Anthropogenic activity and climate change impacts Natural resources management Environmental risk assessment Overview:The EFB Thematic Line is focused on the functional role of biodiversity, structure and processes of aquatic (from catchment to coast) and terrestrial ecosystems, and the services they provide. The main objective is to quantify and understand processes at the individual, population and community levels, extrapolating to ecosystems under anthropogenic pressures. Research is aligned strategically to develop, validate and implement new approaches, including analytical tools, remediation protocols, bioassays and prediction models to assess anthropogenic activity impacts, from contamination to extreme natural events, biotic pressures, or land use disturbance on biodiversity and ecosystem functions and services. Contributing Research Groups: Adaptation Biology & Ecological Processes (ABEP) Ecotoxicology (Ec) Environmental Processes & Pollutants (EPP) Functional Biodiversity (FB) Marine Biotecnology & Aquaculture (MBA) Stress Biology (SB)
