1.10.1998 - 1.9.2003 :  PhD research on yellow-necked mouse (Apodemus flavicollis) ecology under the supervision of Dr. J.R. Flowerdew (University of Cambridge, England). This piece of research focused on the behavioural ecology, epidemiology, ecophysiology and genetics of wild rodents. It involved field work, laboratory analyses, and computer modelling.

1.2007 – 5.2010 : Scientific director for the German part of the EDEN Project (EDEN = Emerging Diseases in a changing European eNvironment), dealing with the epidemiology of tick-borne diseases.
Mission:
(1) to install a molecular diagnosis laboratory (virology, bacteriology, protozoology),
(2) to develop and perform research on emerging zoonoses in Germany,
(3) to train and coordinate 14 European partner laboratories,
(4) to perform Quality Control on molecular diagnosis for the above mentioned 14 European partner laboratories.
The research part of this project involved monthly field surveys, molecular analyses, data analysis and computer modelling.
