Short Bio

Adriano Quintela has a scientific background in Biology, specialty in Marine Biology (degree) (2003). In 2012 he concluded his PhD in Geography – specialty in land use management in the University of the Azores (Grant financed by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia). He was a member of CIBIO Research Center in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources (2006 – 2012).


His main research interests are: (i) integrated planning and management of coastal and watershed areas, having been involved in the planning teams of 4 Coastal Zone Management Plans (POOC) (Santa Maria, Graciosa, Flores e Corvo) in the Azores Archipelago and the Sete Cidades Watershed Management Plan; (ii) Beach Planning and Management, Scenic Evaluation, Functional Analysis, Perception Studies, Risk Assessment, Litter, subject of his PhD; (iii) bathing water quality and profiles, having been involved in the elaboration of the bathing water profiles of São Miguel and Terceira Islands-Azores; (iv) Protected areas management through the participation on the project SMARTPARK - Planning and Management System for Small Islands Protected Areas (FCT) and (v) Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and spatial analysis, present throughout several projects.
