DOMAIN OF SPECIALIZATION AND INVESTIGATION

Main objective:  Study the alterations induced in invertebrate species due to climate change (pH, salinity and temperature), classical and emergent contaminants

Biological models: Bivalves (clams, cockles, mussels, oysters) and polychaetes as sentinel and bioindicator species

Responses: Biochemical markers: oxidative stress, metabolic activity, energy reserves, neurotoxicity; Physiological markers: regenerative capacity of polychaetes; larval development of bivalves; Genotoxic markers: genes expression.

Other topics of interest:

  • Trematode parasites in bivalves;

  • Native vs invasive bivalves: Ecological, economic and health concerns (PTWI)

  • Population genetics, biogeography, phylogenetics, hybridization of clams

  • Marine benthic communities: Identification, characterization and mapping of marine benthic habitats
