The main goal of this project is to study the relation between air quality (outdoor and indoor) and human health, in a defined region in Portugal. The future evolution of this study area, taking into account defined development strategies, will be also analysed.
The study region will be characterized in terms of air quality (outdoor and indoor), economical and social development and population health. This characterization will include the current situation and its evolution forecast considering economical and social development scenarios. The methodology defined within the project requires a selection of a study region representative of a non-polluted area, in a current situation, but with expected problems of air quality and population health, in a near future.
It is also a goal of this project to contribute to a greater involvement of the local community. For that purpose, great effort will be made in the dissemination of project results. A specific program to inform and sensitize the population regarding the procedures to diminish allergenic diseases in interior spaces will be developed. Several field campaigns are also planned to the study region. These campaigns will include outdoor and indoor pollutants and meteorological measurements, health tests in the population regarding allergenic and asthma diseases and control of allergenic factors in indoor environments.
