Portugal has undergone significant afforestation in recent decades, which has had impacts on the provision of water-related ecosystem services, difficult to assess due to the masking effect of inter-annual climate variability. This project addresses the problem for the Águeda river basin using an eco-hydrological modeling approach, focusing on the impacts of pine and eucalypt afforestation on water balance and at addressing specific issues relevant to local stakeholders.
