Research interests

1 - Understand human impacts on individual, population and landscape-level patterns and processes.
2 - Develop strategies for conserving mammals, and especially mammalian carnivores, in diverse natural ecosystems throughout the world, but also in agro-ecosystems and forestry landscapes.
3 - Unravel the mechanisms and processes behind species resilient in agroecosystems.
4 - Understand how we can maximize biodiversity and promote a functional ecological network in agro-ecosystems, while allowing for an economically sustainable production.

CV

L M Rosalino graduated in Biology Applied to Animal Resources in 1995 from the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) and obtained his Ph.D. in Biology (Ecology and Biosystematics) from the University of Lisbon (Portugal) in 2004. He started a post-doctoral researcher position at the Centre for Environmental Biology (CBA; University of Lisbon, Portugal) in 2004, focused on carnivore ecology and conservation in agroforestry systems. Between 2004 and 2007 was an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Lusófona University of Humanities and Technologies (Portugal). In 2008 co-founded a company (Bioma – Serviços em Ambiente) focused on implementing environmental studies (flora and fauna components) ranging from Environmental Impact Assessments, management and monitoring plans and environmental education projects. In 2012 he was invited to integrate the Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture (CENA), one of the best Applied Tropical Ecology groups at the University São Paulo (USP-Brazil), as post-doc, to extend his research on mammals’ ecological adaptations to tropical agroforestry systems. In 2014 returned to the University of Lisbon (Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Environmental Changes-cE3c, Portugal) to start another Post-doctoral project on mammal adaptation to production forests. Since 2015 he is an Assistant Researcher at the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) of the University of Aveiro (Portugal), where he develops his research on wildlife ecology, management and conservation, using mammals as models. Author of 48 papers in ISI journals, he has 473 citations and an h-index of 12. He also was editor of 3 book, author of 22 book chapters and 10 papers publish in non-ISI journals. He is the author/co-author of 82 oral presentations/poster in national and international scientific meetings and acted as referee for 51 international journal. He integrates the editorial board of 2 scientific international journals and he is also a member of the IUCN SSC Small Carnivore Specialist Group. He co-supervises 3 PhD students, supervised/co-supervised 16 master students (11 of which already concluded their MSc thesis) and 4 graduated students. He coordinated 4 national research projects and participated as a team member in 12 national and international research projects.

Research Interests

My research focuses on mammalian ecology, behavior and conservation, with an emphasis on carnivores. I am also interested in the ecological strategies involved in carnivore adaptation to changing environments, in oak woodlands vertebrate community structure, in assessing the conservation role of agriculture landscape and in the impact of zoonotic parasites on wild mammal populations. My current research is driven by one major goal: to understands the functional conservation role of agriculture and forestry landscapes in Europe and in the Neotropics to mammals.
