Short curriculum vitae

Roberto Martins is Assistant Researcher in the Department of Biology & CESAM, University of Aveiro, since 2019, after getting a position in the very competitive call "CEEC 2017" (scored with 9.4/10, ex-aequo with the best proposal in the Biological Sciences Junior Researcher panel; CEECIND/01329/2017). He obtained his degree in Teaching of Biology and Geology at the University of Aveiro (ECTS grade: A; final mark: 17/20; awarded the 5-y degree' best student prize) and his PhD in Marine Biology at the University of Aveiro, in 28/02/2013. He published  27 ISI papers, 1 book chapter and presented ~60 communications; coordinates one Project for Transnational Cooperation between Portugal and Brazil (FCT/CAPES) and participates in four other projects (one H2020, one ERA-NET-H2020 and two national FCT project). During the PhD, he carried out research on habitat mapping/characterization, biodiversity and ecology of benthic macroinvertebrates. In June 2020 it will also coordinate the recently funded FCT project (~300k€), NANOGREEN, in the framework of the call "R&D Projects on the Occasion of the Celebrations of the V Centenary of the Circumnavigation Voyage - 2019". It will join Portuguese and Brazilian universities as well as one R&D SME.

Research is focused on the effects of novel engineered nanomaterials with anti-corrosion and anti-fouling properties along a marine trophic chain. Main research interests are related with ecotoxicology, namely the assessment of exposure, bioaccumulation and biomagnification effects of nanomaterials, corrosion inhibitors and anti-fouling biocides in marine organisms as well as of novel “green” products that could prevent and/or control corrosion in maritime structures with low environmental risk. Simultaneously, keep several international collaborations in the domain of the ecology and taxonomy of polychaetes, mainly of the family Lumbrineridae. | |
