![]() Programme - Programa Operacional da Competitividade e Internacionalização (PTDC/BIA-MIC/6473/2014) Execution dates - 2016-06-01 - 2020-02-29 (45 Months) Funding Entity - FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia; FEDER - Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional Funding for CESAM - 196800 € Total Funding - 196800 € Proponent Institution - Universidade de Aveiro Participating Institutions Biocant, Portugal Naturalis Biodiversity Center, The Netherlands SETUBIO, SA, France In this project we aim to combine ecological and biotechnological approaches to investigate the ecology and biotechnological potential of bacterial plasmids in sponge hosts. Our findings will provide the first comprehensive analysis of plasmid diversity, distribution and putative eco-physiological functions of bacterial communities inhabiting marine sponges in coral reef ecosystems exposed to different levels of anthropogenic pollution. Furthermore, a strong biotechnological focus will be placed on the pool of isolated plasmids. Project Outputs: EcoTech-Sponge DATABANK (Metagenomics and Isolates)
