Project Description

The BRIGHT Project is developed taking into account five main objectives:

• Conservation, reclamation and rehabilitation of native flora, through the propagation and planting of a native habitats number of species characteristic;

• Conservation, maintenance and management of Adernal’s habitat. Buçaco National Forest is the only place in the world where this habitat remains. Its rarity, uniqueness and vulnerability, in regional, national and European terms justify its protection and conservation;

• Control and eradication of invasive species that are threatening the biodiversity of Buçaco National Forest, with special focus on the following areas: Pinhal do Marquês, basin surrounding the Vale dos Fetos, Vale dos Abetos and a set of small landscaped areas scattered throughout the Buçaco National Forest;

• Conservation of flora and fauna biodiversity, improving the necessary habitats for species conservation, including a number of protected species under the Birds and Habitats Directives;

• Dissemination of knowledge, techniques and methods resulting from the project so that they can be used for similar purposes, not only at national level as well as in other European territories.
