Department of Biology, University of Aveiro, 15th to 19th October 2012
The Wildlife Unit of DBio and CESAM is organizing the course 'Exploring patterns and selection of statistical models in ecology' lectured by Prof Emmanuel Serrano Ferron, from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
This is a good opportunity to develop knowledge on statistical, namely on software R that is an essential tool for ecologists, environmental engineers, and wildlife researchers.

Astrobiology is an interdisciplinary field of knowledge that deals with fundamental questions such as the possibility of life in other planets and the origins and evolution of life. It involves the collaboration of disciplines like biology, physics, geology, chemistry, planetary sciences and medicine, as well as science communication and education to deal with the following specific issues:
- Which instruments and techniques are used to investigate life (past and present) on other planetary bodies;
- Which chemical processes are crucial for life;
- What are the limits for life on Earth;
- What can we learn by studding Mars analogue extreme environments on Earth;
- Which other planets can support Earth-like life;
- How to improve public engagement with astrobiology.
This workshop is intended to facilitate an international and interdisciplinary forum for discussion.

CESAM’s research group Processes and Environmental Pollutants, (RL: Environmental and Analytical Chemistry) is organizing a Symposium on Analytical Chemistry titled "Environmental occurrence, persistence and fate of pharmaceuticals." This symposium will last for one day and will be held at the University of Aveiro in March 30, 2012.
This event, with the objective to foster the discussion of issues related to environmental contamination by pharmaceuticals, will bring together several researchers working in this area of research.
The symposium will focus on the role of analytical chemistry in the study of the various processes that affect the occurrence, persistence and fate of these compounds, exploring the state of the art and the main challenges expected in future.
There is no registration fee for the symposium – however registration by email is required (name/status/institution) – firstname.lastname@example.org
