MiningImpact2 - Environmental Impacts and Risks of Deep-Sea Mining (JPI-Oceans, 2018-2022) MiningImpact2 (MI2) ( https://miningimpact.geomar.de/home ) follows up on the results of the JPI Oceans pilot action on "Ecological Aspects of Deep-Sea Mining" which ended in December 2017. While the initial MiningImpact phase investigated experimental and rather small-scale disturbances of the seafloor over decadal timescales, the MI2 will independently study and comprehensively monitor in real time the environmental impact of an industrial trial to mine manganese nodules on the seafloor which will be conducted simultaneously and independently by the Belgian contractor DEME-GSR...read more

International joint doctoral programme: University of Aveiro | University of Lisbon Welcome to the I PhD Meeting of the BEAG Programme. The ‘Biology and Ecology of Global Changes’ PhD programme is a postgraduate international programme involving the Universities of Aveiro and Lisboa, supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology and with the collaboration of CESAM - the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies. The main objectives of the Programme are centred in global changes issues, including the understanding of the impact of global changes in living organisms and ecosystems, taking into account current scenarios and projections. Students are enrolled in five areas of specialization: Tropical Biology and Ecology, Marine Biology and Ecology, Ecology and Functional Biodiversity, Ecological and Evolutionary Genomics, Environmental Biology and Health. The meeting will be held on the 25th of October in the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon. This is the first meeting involving BEAG PhD students of both the University of Aveiro and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. Its main aim is to offer students an opportunity to present their work, to be involved in scientific discussions, to establish new research connections and to network and enjoy each other company.
