Scientific activities

-Development and validations of identification and metal differentiation analytical methodologies for solid metal matrixes (organisms, soils, sediments and plants).
-Contaminants cycle in coastal environments, mainly in chemistry of sediments and in the distribution, dispersion, reactivity, transport and accumulation in the aquatic systems.
-Bioaccumulation and bio amplification of potentially toxic elements among the trophic estuary chains.
-Characterization of the aquatic organisms response when exposited to potentially toxic elements in their environment and characterization of the relations between contamination and biological response.
-Study of alterations induced by the distribution of space/time environmental contamination in swamp plants and investigation of these areas potential to self-remediate.
-Evaluation of the nanomaterials, micro-porous materials and bio residues capacity in the removal of potentially toxic elements from aqueous solutions, with the aim to use such materials as decontamination agents.
-Soil quality evaluation as support in the development of new environmental urban practices with the aim to value the soil as a sustainable resource.
