Short Bio

Tanya Cristina Jesus Esteves obtained her MSc in Science and Geographic Information Systems (Instituto Superior de Estatística e Gestão de Informação – Universidade Nova de Lisboa) in 2007 and a Degree in Environmental Engineering (Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra – Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra) in 2004. She is currently working on her PhD degree in Environmental Sciences and Engineering (Aveiro University), with a grant financed by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia.


She has been a researcher since her graduation in 2004 and has participated in a multiplicity of national and international projects (such as TPEA: Transboundary Planning in the European Atlantic (DG MARE); Ecodeep: Development of Eco-efficiency tools for the agro-food industry (QREN); DESIRE: Desertification Mitigation & Remediation of Land: a global approach for local solutions (FP6); URBHI: Flood risk evaluation and pollutant mobilization as a result of global changes (FCT)), whose subjects varied from forest fires and floods, to coastal erosion and maritime coastal planning. Most recently she has shown interest in city sustainability and analysing how sustainability may be met by creating a viable management solution for an urban region. She is also an experienced lecturer, having taught at Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra, Aveiro University and, in 2016, lectured at Ryerson University (Toronto, Canada).


As an Environmental Engineer, she is interested in joining her base training with the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) field. In all the referred study subjects, she has used several GIS techniques as a primordial tool to analyse the territory, as to fully comprehend the intricate processes that occur in those study areas.
