The fundamental goal of @CRUiSE project is to integrate road traffic impacts into a single analytical framework for use in advanced traffic management systems (ATMS). The work plan is founded on 3 main pillars: i) Designing a conceptual methodology for assigning a link-based indicator that can evaluate different traffic-related externalities, adjusted to local contexts of vulnerability; ii) Improving the interoperability between traffic-related models and new sources of traffic data; and iii) Optimizing the network operations by means of a decision support system.

A key innovative factor will be the inclusion of energy/environmental parameters in these relationships through the application of detailed state of-the-art traffic-related models. It is at this point that the GEMAC team will give a greatest contribution, in particular through the application of local (CFD) and mesoscale models to assess the impacts of road traffic emissions on air quality, as well as through the application of Artificial Neural Network (ANNs) to establish non-linear relationships between emissions and air quality concentration-based air quality indicators.
