The 16th International Colloquium on Amphipoda (http://16ica.web.ua.pt/) was held in Aveiro from the 7th to the 11th September 2015. With more than 40 years of tradition, this is the most relevant meeting for several generations of amphipodologists, and an exciting forum for scientific exchange among researchers interested in all aspects of amphipod biology and ecology. Following a trend for increasing numbers of participants over the last editions, this year 100 researchers interested in amphipod biology from 30 different countries are attending this exciting meeting. The 104 contributions are distributed by the following themes: 1. Biodiversity and biogeography; 2. Phylogenetics and phylogeography; 3. Morphology; 4. Physiology; 5. Ecology; 6. ECAT 2016 USA Conference

ECAT is a premium international conference on ‘Emerging Healthcare Materials & Advancement in Toxicology’ that will be held from September 1-3, 2016 at Radisson Hotel, The University of Toledo, Health Science Campus, Toledo, Ohio USA.

Commercialization of emerging nanotechnologies and advanced nanomaterials influences societal responses to their development and applications and demands for better evaluation of their effects on the environment and human health. The environmental real situation can even be more complex, as nanomaterials appear as part of a cocktail of different classes of contaminants. Thus, the current forum has been conceived with the intention to share empirical knowledge, create novel ideas and initiate new collaborations between leading experts from academia, industry, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations in an attempt to mitigate or eliminate future exposures for the betterment of human health and the environment.

Sponsors & Exhibitors: CESAM and The University of Toledo.

Further details on the programme, plenary speakers, registration and abstract submission can be found in https://www.ecat-conference.com.

Mares Conference on Marine Ecosystems Health and Conservation 2016

The Mares Conference on Marine Ecosystems Health and Conservation 2016 (http://www.maresconference.eu/) was held in Olhão, Portugal from the 1st to the 5th February 2016. This international conference mentored by the MARES Joint Doctoral Programme and EuroMarine Network attracted 180 attendees from across the world, with strong representation from the European region. The conference was a unique opportunity to bring together marine scientists, educators, and non-academic stakeholders to address the main issues regarding the impact of human activities on the natural marine environment. The conference provided a dynamic and innovative environment with a mixture of oral presentations, scientific exhibitions and training workshops. Thescientific sessions were focused on six themes: 1. Future Oceans; 2. Natural Resources; 3. Biodiversity Effects; 4. Biological Invasions; 5. Habitat Loss; 6. Ocean Noise. The scientific exhibitions were an ideal opportunity for attendees to meet, exchange ideas and discuss their research or developments. Attendees showcased innovative research, ideas or products through demonstrations, digital objects, posters and displays. Training workshops covered a broad range of topics such as open science, public speaking and presenting, manuscript submission, and media skills for researchers.
