Research interests

My primary interest is applied ecological research in support of active conservation projects. Throughout my career, I have focused largely on the processes and patterns underlying species responses towards roads namely on the effects of road network on birds and mammals such as behaviour, abundance, genetic structure, risk of mortality and population viability. I have been particularly interested in integrating different scientific fields through collaborative projects and conducting interfaces between the conservation and management agencies which has enabled me to build a very consistent career in road ecology.

Academic degrees

2009 Ph.D. in Conservation Biology, Universidade de Lisboa (Distinção e Louvor).

2003 Pós-graduation in Ciência e Sistemas de Informação Geográfica [Science and Geographic Information Systems]. Instituto Superior de Estatística e Gestão de Informação, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (15/20) (Annex A)

1998 Graduated in Biology, Biology Applied to Animal Resources in Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (15/20). From 1996 to 1998 performed the final work Metodologias de avaliação de áreas prioritárias para a conservação: aplicação ao Parque Natural da Serra de S. Mamede [Methods to evaluate priority areas for conservation: the case study of Parque Natural da Serra de S. Mamede] (18/20). (Annex B).
