Building the future by doing more together

Environmental Biomonitoring Laboratory (BIOMON)

BIOMON lab investigates temporal and spatial changes in biological systems (e.g., organisms, populations, communities, ecosystems) resulting from anthropogenic activities. The team works on essential aspects regarding environmental quality monitoring, namely: 1) validation of biomarkers and bioindicators/biomonitors for marine and estuarine pollution monitoring; 2) study of the dynamics of cyanobacterial blooms for prediction and mitigation of toxic outcomes in a global warming context; 3) assessment of ocean warming and acidification effects on marine fauna (e.g. malformation of biogenic carbonates).
