COMPUTATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE OF UNIVERSITY OF AVEIRO

High Performance Computational System (ARGUS), a platform capable to fulfill the research work demands, namely on:

  • Ocean modelling
  • Atmospheric modelling
  • Estuarine and Coastal modelling
  • Air quality modelling
  • Bioinformatics

The cluster is an initiative of several departments and Research Units at University of Aveiro, namely:

  • Department of Environment and Planning
  • Department of Physic
  • Department of Chemistry
  • CESAM
  • CICECO
  • I3N

Hardware

  • 1 front-end with two 10-core Intel ® Xeon ® E5-2670 @ 2.50 GHz processors and 62 GB RAM
  • 25 compute nodes each one consisting of two 12-core Intel ® Xeon ® E5-2690 v3 @ 2.60 GHz processors and 125 GB RAM
  • 15 compute nodes each one consisting of two 14-core Intel ® Xeon ® E5-2690 v4 @ 2.60 GHz processors and 125 GB RAM
  • Grand total of 1020 cores spread along 40 nodes and ~5115 GB RAM

  • 1 High-performance, low-latency, temporary storage server with SSD disks (4.2 TB)
  • 1 persistent storage system (140 TB)
  • High throughput, low-latency network connection (InfiniBand) between all servers
  • 10 Gbps connection to the ‘outside world’
