Research interests

o Development of analytical techniques, as ELISA and HPLC, for the quantification/evaluation of the occurrence of emerging contaminants (hormones, pharmaceuticals) in the aquatic environment (waste, surface (fresh and estuarine) and ground waters);

o Development of analytical techniques, as ELISA, for the quantification of caffeine as an anthropogenic marker in the aquatic environment (waste, surface (fresh and estuarine) and ground waters);

o Production, characterization and application of alternative adsorbent materials from residues (e.g. pulp and paper industry residues);

o Application of adsorptive processes for water remediation;

o Development of analytical methods, as electrochemical techniques, for the quantification of heavy metals, as lead and cadmium, for application in real water samples;

o Development of pre-concentration methods, as SPE and DLLME;

o Evaluation of the fate/persistence of emerging contaminants (hormones) in the aquatic environment by means of photodegradation studies.

Keywords: environment; removal/remediation; alternative adsorbents; pharmaceuticals; immunoassays (ELISA); high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); capillary electrophoresis (MEKC)
