Current research areas

Marine Geology: Mud volcanism and fluid escape structures; Gas hydrates, occurrence and stability fields modelling; Methane-derived authigenic carbonates: characterization, geochemistry, and genetic processes; Tectonic and stratigraphic control of fluid escape structures in the South Portuguese Margin and the Gulf of Cadiz; Interpretation of geophysical data, marine geological mapping (seismic, side scan sonar, multibeam); Geographic Information Systems, integration and interpretation of geologic and geophysical data.

Professional experience

Since August 2013, Assistant Researcher at IPMA - Portuguese Institute for the Ocean and Atmosphere (IPMA), Marine Geology and Georesources Division (DivGM).
2009-2013, Assistant Researcher at CESAM - Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies, Geosciences Department of the University of Aveiro.
2007 - 2009, Post doctoral fellow of the FCT (Portuguese Science and technology Foundation) at the Geophysical Sciences Department of The University of Chicago.
2003 - 2007, PhD Student fellow of the FCT (Portuguese Science and technology Foundation).
1997 - 2003, Junior Research at the Instituto Geológico e Mineiro – Marine Geology Department (IGM/DGM), on the research area of Geology and Resources of the Portuguese Margin. Project INGMAR (Reforço da Capacidade de Investigação no Domínio da Geologia Marinha) financed by the FCT.
